What is TONSORIUM?

The word tonsorium comes from the Latin word tondeo, meaning “to shear, clip, or shave.” In ancient times, a tonsorium referred to a barbershop, and a tonsor was a barber. Essentially, it was the Roman equivalent of the modern-day barbershop—where men would go for a shave, a haircut, and even a little socializing.
